Naxos Heritage 5 hours Tour: Temples, Crafts & Mountain Villages

What you'll do

Our tour begins at Yria, near the village of Agios Arsenios, one of the most important sacred sites in the Aegean. With continuous activity dating back to the 14th century B.C., this remarkable sanctuary is considered the birthplace of the Ionic order in monumental Greek architecture. As you walk through the site, you’ll sense the deep spiritual heritage that shaped ancient Naxos.

We then continue to the magnificent Temple of Demeter, located just south of Ano Sagri. Built around 430 B.C. and crafted entirely from Naxian marble, this temple stands as one of the earliest and finest examples of Ionic architecture. Surrounded by peaceful farmland, it beautifully reflects the ancient connection between the goddess Demeter and the island’s fertile landscape.

Our journey takes us next to the scenic village of Damalas, where you’ll visit the traditional pottery workshop of Manolis Libertas. Here, you’ll watch local artisans bring clay to life, discover age-old ceramic techniques, and get a closer look at a craft that has been passed down through generations.

We conclude our experience in the charming village of Chalki, one of the most picturesque and historic settlements on the island. Our first stop is the iconic Vallindras Citrus Distillery, where Naxos’ famous citrus liqueur has been produced for generations. Afterwards, you’ll enjoy a relaxed stroll through Chalki’s beautiful stone alleys before savoring delicious local dishes and a traditional dessert in a cozy village tavern , the perfect ending to a day filled with culture, history, and authentic island flavors.
